Too Much Competition In 2009 For Bioshock 2
It is official, Bioshock 2 which was scheduled to be released November 2009 has been delayed until the first part of 2010, as reported from the recent Take-Two press conference. It appears Take-Two is looking to utilize this extra time in development in order to truly bring their vision to life in Bioshock 2 and while that does sound good, could this be the only reason for the delay.
The delaying of a game of this magnitude does raise the obvious question, why? Of course we are always excited about highly anticipated titles being fully realized by their development teams however, after looking at the forecast of upcoming titles during the 3rd and 4th quarter of 2009, we think we can answer this question by stating that the 2009 competition is stiff! Very stiff. With the upcoming list of blockbuster hits in the form of new IP’s and returning sequels, (Modern Warfare 2, Assassins Creed 2, MAG, Uncharted 2, Darksiders, LEFT4DEAD 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction etc..) it doesn’t take a genius to realize why Take-Two has decided on a 2010 release date soft spot.
As we all know times are not as economically friendly as they once were leaving publishers strategizing to be careful about software launch dates. The upside to all of this is of course wonderful for gamers. As the competition continues to increase, gamers will increasingly find themselves with more and more triple A titles spread throughout the year to enjoy and that is what it’s all about.
